Certificate Distribution Announcement 2025
⚠️We normally distribute your certificates within 10 working days. However, our UK headquarters will be closed from Dec 22 to Jan 5 due to upcoming holiday.
During this period, the delivery of your certificate may be delayed.
✏️Kindly note the following estimated certificate delivery timeline for your booking consideration:
- If you take your test by 08 Dec, you are guarantee to receive your certificate by 19 Dec
- If you take your test by 10 Dec, you are guarantee to receive your certificate by 09 Jan
- If you take your test by 20 Dec, you are guarantee to receive your certificate by 16 Jan

What is the TEA test?
Test of English for Aviation (TEA) is a test of plain English, ability to communicate in English, in an aviation context for licensing purposes – not a test of aviation phraseology or operational knowledge;
A face-to-face, human interaction test with 1 examiner who asks questions for detailed responses;
A 25 - 30 minute test that consists of 3 parts:
Part 1 – Interview
Part 2 – Interactive Comprehension
Part 3 – Picture Description & Discussion

The ICAO Descriptors
ICAO has developed the criteria by which your English will be judged. The full descriptors can be viewed
here.
TEA candidates can score from Level 1 to Level 6, but most candidates Level 3,4 or 5. A simplified version of Level 2-5 below.
Candidates are awarded a score from 1 to 6 for each of the 6 skills: pronunciation, structure, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, interactions.
It is the LOWEST of these 6 marks which decides the overall score.

To register please:
- Save the TEA Registration Form to your computer. Complete the form and email it with a copy of the photo page of your passport that you are registering with to our administrator - tea@hkyaa.hk (note: you must bring this passport on your test day and the passport number will appear on your certificate).
- In your email to tea@hkyaa.hk indicate your requested test date/ time and we will email you back to confirm.
- Pay the test fees on this website. Test fees must be paid at the time of registration using FPS/ PayMe/ Bank Transfer/ Paypal. Note: If you are unable to collect your TEA certificate in person, please make sure you select and pay for the appropriate delivery service (local/ international delivery).
After the test:
(1) You will receive an electronic certificate
(2) Please note that there is currently no option to offer paper certificates. (Candidates may pay for a paper copy in future as an additional service, however that will only possible once the TEA headquarters have returned to work in the UK.)
Appeals:
Appeals must be made to HKYAA in writing no later than one month after certificates have been dispatched. Candidates must return their certificate to HKYAA and pay the full test fee. Appealed tests are re-assessed via TEA HQ, and an Official Appeal Result Form will be sent to the Centre Administrator to forward onto the appealing candidate. If the Senior Examiners award:
- a higher Overall Score, a new certificate is dispatched to the Centre immediately. The original certificate must be destroyed and the candidate must receive a refund of the appeal fee.
- the same Overall Score, the Centre should re-issue the original certificate and the candidate does not receive a refund.
- a lower Overall Score, the Centre should re-issue the original certificate and the candidate does not receive a refund.
