What is the TEA test?
Test of English for Aviation (TEA) is a test of plain English, ability to communicate in English, in an aviation context for licensing purposes – not a test of aviation phraseology or operational knowledge;
A face-to-face, human interaction test with 1 examiner who asks questions for detailed responses;
A 25 - 30 minute test that consists of 3 parts:
Part 1 – Interview
Part 2 – Interactive Comprehension
Part 3 – Picture Description & Discussion

The ICAO Descriptors
ICAO has developed the criteria by which your English will be judged. The full descriptors can be viewed
here.
TEA candidates can score from Level 1 to Level 6, but most candidates Level 3,4 or 5. A simplified version of Level 2-5 below.
Candidates are awarded a score from 1 to 6 for each of the 6 skills: pronunciation, structure, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, interactions.
It is the LOWEST of these 6 marks which decides the overall score.

Requirement:
- be a Hong Kong license holder under employment with a Hong Kong carrier or
- possess an invitation from a Hong Kong carrier to take the test
- currently a cadet in Hong Kong attending a self funded program
Documentation Required for Pilot Renewal Test:
- Please visit HKCAD Personell Licensing Information System (HKCAD PLIS) here to register an account at least 5 days before your scheduled ICAO English Test
- It is your own responsibility to have your own account registered on the HKCAD PLIS website prior to your scheduled test date, otherwise, your ICAO English result will not be reflected on HKCAD PLIS system for your pilot language endorsement

Registration Steps:

WhatsApp message 2777 7573 with a screenshot of an invitation email (including your name and an email timestamp) from your Hong Kong Based Airline/ Airline Renewal Email/ One off approval from HKCAD
- Select your test slot
- Fill in the registration form and fill in your passport information on the registration form
- Pay the test fees on this website. Test fees must be paid at the time of registration using FPS/ Bank Transfer/ Paypal
- Complete the form electronically and email it to our administrator - tea@hkyaa.hk with the title format as provided via Whatsapp
- Payment slots on this website will be matched with the last four digits of your mobile number, please make sure you pay for the correct timeslot***
- You are reminded to bring your passport on the day of your exam for registration. The passport that you bring must match registration form on your test day, the same name will also be displayed on your e-certificate
- There will be additional $200 admin charge if there is any changes request to be made on the certificate if you do not notify our administrator within 24 hours of your test
Additional Notes:
- No refund will be arranged for candidates who paid without communicating with us on slot availability beforehand.
- Please arrive the test venue at least 20 minutes before your confirmed test slot. Any late arrival will be considered as “no-show” and there will be no refund.
- All test fees are non-refundable. A one-off test rescheduling may be considered on a case-by-case basis; please contact us via WhatsApp at 2777 7573 if any conditions may affect your performance on your test day.
After the test:
The TEA certificates will be shared with you via email within 8 working days

Appeals:
Appeals must be made to HKYAA in writing no later than one month after certificates have been dispatched. Candidates must return their certificate to HKYAA and pay the full test fee. Appealed tests are re-assessed via TEA HQ, and an Official Appeal Result Form will be sent to the Centre Administrator to forward onto the appealing candidate. If the Senior Examiners award:
- a higher Overall Score, a new certificate is dispatched to the Centre immediately. The original certificate must be destroyed and the candidate must receive a refund of the appeal fee.
- the same Overall Score, the Centre should re-issue the original certificate and the candidate does not receive a refund.
- a lower Overall Score, the Centre should re-issue the original certificate and the candidate does not receive a refund.

Sick leave policy:
You MUST notify the test personnel on the test day if your condition in any way may impede your performance.
Only candidates who notify the test admin staff at least 3 hours prior to the scheduled test timeslot will be offered a one-off rebooking.
The valid sick leave certificate with sick leave period covering the date of test issued by a certified doctor should be presented within 3 working days.
